The Color Scheme

Here are a few details of our wedding - for which many people have worked hard....
We thought we'd share these details with all of you as a big THANK YOU to everyone who was involved and helped us achieve these small...personal touches :) |

It was mostly ORANGE with white and black accents (and some silver too!): for example the colors in the bouquet, the flower arrangements for the groom, the decoration of the main car, and most of the self-made decorations...
The Table Decorations
- Natural flowers: courtesy of MB who found a whole bunch of them growing wildly on her way to work, so she asked someone who lived there if she could have them, and he said "yes, of course!"; thank you to the unknown man who let us pick so many beautiful orange flowers and have them on our wedding party tables!
- Vases: courtesy of VB who chose them from Metro; they were actually wine carafes transformed into vases with bows and such things (from an Idee shop in Leipzig); these were carefully added by MB and the SunShine; no two vases were the same! VB's creative side was also revealed as he also made 2 of them, in the shape of "bow ties" around the carafe neck!! very cool!
- A mix of forest goodies: smaller and larger (pine?) cones, acorns and chestnuts courtesy of the SunShine and the Splendid (from their outdoor trip three days before the wedding)
- Some small paper sunflowers: courtesy of Sunshine and Splendid (from a Xenos shop in Naumburg)
- Napkin holders: inherited from our dearest friends' wedding in Mexico this summer; they were handmade and admired SO MUCH by the Sunshine, that the lady who manufactured them (an aunt of the bride) told her she could take them and use them too!!! They were made from toilet roll cores (transformed into rings), colored natural fiber and paper flowers for a touch of style.
The Menus
- Self-made too! After the Palais S sent us the menu in German, we translated it into English and Romanian; the cover was printed on orange carton from the Idee shop and the inside text on regular paper, all bound together with a string made of natural fiber; some vegetal-stamps were applied on some of the menus, with black ink (because the white was dried out); it proved a disaster! luckily, other stamps depicting flowers were available, so the rest were stamped with those :)

The Sweets' Jars
- Probably went largely UNNOTICED because of their location next to the buffet; the glass jars were ordered from an online medical equipment shop; the sweets inside were bought at the Katjes sweets factory in Potsdam - when the MB, VB, Splendid and the SunShine went for a nice walk the week before the wedding; the labels were manufactured by the SunShine, from pre-printed cardboard from Idee, cut, handwritten and bow-tied around the jar necks.
The Guest Name-Tags
- Partly also unnoticed, because many guests did not realize they had a name-tag;
- Paper-flowers with name-tags: the name-tags for each guest were handwritten, and made from round orange carton punched (with a special round punching tool!) by a patient Italian man (!); they were attached to paper flowers (in the orange-yellow palette) handmade by the Sunshine and her two skillful helpers (i.e. the domnisoare de onoare); all materials for the paper flowers were from the Idee shop in Leipzig.
- Name-tag holders: At the entrance to the Palais S there was a table with white glass bottles of different shapes and different sizes, diligently collected by Splendid and SunShine in the UK and in Germany by MB. Each guest would pick a bottle of their liking and place the paper-flower with their name-tag in it, at the table where they chose to sit (there was no predetermined seating plan). The flowers were also intended as keepsakes (as memories to take home).
The Guest Favours
- Every couple/household should have received one! [if you didn't, WRITE TO US, NOW!!] Splendid, SunShine and two little helpers [of whom one was unfortunately tired and sick, but still, kept his promise and helped us out!!], went around with baskets full of guest-favours; they were hand made by a "production line" made up of: Splendid, Sunshine and MB; the little jars, lids and different types of seeds were ordered online and assembled at home; the messages with instructions about what to do with them were printed by Splendid; the yarn was cut by Sunshine in equal threads and they were tied by MB to the jars....
- The idea behind this was that each couple/house gets a DIFFERENT seed, according to what they pick from the basket; we cannot tell them a recipe that will absolutely get their plants to grow, nor can we tell them what plant they will get in the end; this is because we prefer to take life (and marriage!) as a surprise: with excitement, as much as with love and care (because these are the only two ingredients we know FOR SURE are needed to make a plant..and a marriage..grow). If you are curious what the plants were, and you really have no idea how to grow them, no worries! we have kept the bags they all came in and you will have the chance to consult them, if you let us know about it
Stationery
- A few things that were meant to give the wedding a unitary theme were designed by SunShine: a logo with the names of the groom and bride and the date of the wedding, a carefully-selected font used in all printed materials, some images of animals, birds or plants that were meant to evoke a vintage theme (think 50's again: the bride's dress, the hair-style, the photo-shoot).
Some BIGGER & more SERIOUS operations:
The Flats
- A highly operative and efficient team consisting of MB and CB made sure the flats we rented for some of the guests were fully equipped!! MB managed to gather about 20 bed sheets, pillow cases, duvet covers and towels and put them in the flats (do not ask from where, but she managed!! her cellar is big and she has many colleagues at work...); also, the operation included bringing some basic food-stuff into the refrigerators, to liven up the kitchen with some coffee, tea, maps, public transportation info and helpful tips printed on some sheets of paper (courtesy of SunShine)... And, last, but not least, the operation involved renting a van and driving around between airports, railway stations, flats, hotels and wedding venue[s] - for which we have to thank CB!!
The Music
- This was in itself a very big operation which involved a large cooperative effort between CB, Splendid and Sunshine. But it also involved the guests themselves who (some of them being reluctantly pushed to) made suggestions of songs to be played at the party in the Palais S. Some guests even took the time to send long lists of songs, sometimes a few pages long, and we GREATLY appreciated this effort. We too worked a few months on organizing and finding the songs and trying to make a nice mix for everyone to enjoy. CB provided all the professional musical equipment and sound system, microphones, screen, big speakers etc... for which we want to thank him AGAIN!
- If you did not hear your suggested song, do not worry; we will try to make a collection of guest-suggested songs and make it downloadable from this site sometime in the future, just because we want you to know HOW MUCH we appreciated your input!!!
The 50's PhotoBooth
- With the help of professional photographers (one of whom gave birth 2 days later to a beautiful baby-boy!!!), the SunShine made portraits of every guest on Black & White 120mm film. The intention was to take all of them during day time with a Lubitel 2 twin reflex camera from the 1950's; unfortunately, due to lack of time, this was not possible, so the photo-shoot had to extend in the evening when the light conditions were not very good; therefore, different cameras had to be used, and some mistakes happened; in the end, not everyone got a portrait on B&W film, and we apologize for that; but we still DO have a nice gallery of B&W photos of each guest, which we've put online (as a private album) and sent the link to all guests individually. With this, we just wanted to show every guest that they are important to us, each of them, and that we value their uniqueness and being there with us on this special day...
The 1st "Splendid Sunshine" Postcards Awards Ceremony
- We decided to show our gratitude to the guests who have taken the time to respond to our little postal invitation game! We've sent our wedding invitations to all guests on a postcard (most of them from artist Roman Tolici's series titled "Action") and asked them to communicate their response on a postcard as well; we received a total of 21 postcards BEFORE the wedding and 21 awards were delivered...
- The categories were: "Cutest Text", "Best Picture", "Most Artistic", "First Postcard to Arrive", "Most British", "Most Personal", "Largest Postcard", "Best Sunshine Postcard", "Longest travel & best stamp", "Smallest Postcard", "Best Personally Delivered", "Shortest Answer in 3 Languages", "Best Representation of Bride and Groom", "Best Announcement of Parenthood Delivered in a Postcard", "Best Postcard from an Art Gallery Improving our Cultural knowledge", "Best Postcard Depicting a Red-Haired Woman and an Unshaved Man", "Best Postcard from a German Town that has nothing to do with the bride-groom pair", "Best Postcard from the Town where the Groom was born", "Most Expressions of Love", "Funniest Postcard".
- All winners received a colorful Award, handwritten, signed and stamped by the bride and groom (printed on colorful carton)...
